Breaking Bad was still in our collective rear view mirror when AMCâs Better Call Saul debuted earlier this year. Who knew that a hilariously slimy lawyer like Saul Goodman was such a lovable guy only a few years before Walter White entered his life? Bob Odenkirk may walk away from this yearâs Emmys with a leading actor award of his own for his heartfelt portrayal of Saulâs younger self, Jimmy McGill.
As a tribute to both sides of Jimmy/Saul, musician Jeff Dutton a.k.a. Bonecage has created a mash-up song that combines his original lyrics with the music of Ray Parker, Jr.âs iconic theme song from the first Ghostbusters movie. In retrospect, the pairing of Saul Goodmanâs âBetter Call Saulâ catchphrase and this song were probably inevitable.
In the accompanying video, Bonecage features clips from some of Saulâs most memorable episodes of Breaking Bad, and a few scenes from Better Call Saul as well. The beginning of the video even shows Saul in his post-Breaking Bad job at a Cinnabon in Omaha, Nebraska…which Saul accurately predicted!
Bonecage has also made parody songs/covers for Game of Thrones, Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead Season 1, Fallout 4, The Goonies, Predator, and House of Cards. But Breaking Bad fans will probably appreciate his version of Totoâs “Africa,” which became âHeisenberg,â as it follows the downfall of Walter White.
Breaking Bad fans, what did you think of Bonecageâs musical tributes to Saul Goodman and Walter White? Does he deserve a reward or a trip to Belize? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
