It’s Thanos vs. Santa Claus In Stephen Colbert’s FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS

Casual Marvel movie fans have only had a brief glimpse at Thanos, the baddest of the bad guys in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s going to be the main villain of Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 & Part 2, and even 67 superheroes may not be enough to put the Mad Titan down. But perhaps St. Nick can…

On last Friday’s The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert introduced his viewers to the ultimate hypothetical match up on his Friday Night Fights segment: Thanos vs. Santa Claus! And this battle features Thanos at the height of his powers, with the Infinity Gauntlet that lets him control time, space, soul, mind, reality, and power. But Santa has “an army of elf slaves, sentient flying deer, and the Coca-Cola corporation.” You know what? Always bet on Coke.

To frame the debate for non-comic book fans, Colbert brought out his best friend and producer, Paul Dinello, to argue in favor of St. Nick’s victory over Thanos, while Colbert said that Thanos would walk away with this fight. Following the debate, Colbert invited viewers to vote for the victor on Twitter…and the results are in!

Santa took the battle by 6%, but let’s see how they poll once people actually see what Thanos can do in a Marvel movie.

Afterwards, Colbert and Dinello moved on to their next match up: Green Lantern LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan with the magic lamp from Aladdin. But come on, everyone knows that James will only stay with the Green Lantern Corps for seven seasons before taking “his talents” to the Sinestro Corps in pursuit of a better ring! Then he’ll eventually go back to the Green Lanterns.

Who would you name the winner of the Thanos and Santa Claus battle? Could Green Lantern LeBron defeat his Airness even without a magic lamp? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
