Well, “Ninja Rap” is now no longer the most oddly specific song created for a Ninja Turtles movie. That distinction would belong to Pentatonix’s new song, “We Are Ninjas” (although that Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, and Juicy J collaboration is up there as well).
The track was inspired by the Michael Bay-produced reboot, which is in theaters this week from Nickelodeon and Paramount. The a capella group created the video for Nickelodeon sister company MTV with director Melissa Bolton-Klinger, with the group dance-walking their way through an explanation of who, precisely, these martial arts amphibians are.
With that in mind, there’s plenty of what you’d expect: riffs on the word “green,” lots of pizza talk, and a choral section describing each of the turtles in detail. I gotta point this out though: singing in the streets in brightly-colored outfits isn’t very ninja, but it is very tubular.
Wait, are they harmonizing the word “pizza?” Alright.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is out this week from director Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los Angeles, Darkness Falls), and stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, William Fichtner, and holy crap, I totally forgot that Johnny Knoxville is Leonardo.
