Leigh Singer at Indiewire’s PressPlay did a great job editing this supercut of movie characters breaking the fourth wall, with scenes from everything from The Great Train Robbery to Spaceballs and many more. You could quibble that some are shots in which the character is addressing other characters by looking directly into the camera, like talking to a jury, but the intent of those shots is clearly to include the viewers among the intended addressees, so we’ll allow it. And, yes, after the credits, it ends with a “surprise,” one of the most celebrated fourth-wall-breaking scenes of them all.

It’s also missing just about every scene from Waynes World
What? No Muppets!?!
Hate to be one of those people, but it’s missing “It’s good to be the King!” from History of the World, and also the beginning of The Simpsons Movie (“Everyone in this theater is a giant sucker, especially YOU!”)
Needs more Eddie Murphy.
Christian Slater did it a lot in Kuffs too, though I guess that was ripping off Ferris Bueller.
GAH! Included the one from TOP SECRET, but missed several more from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (the first 15 mins is nothing but).
And an all-time subtle classic from Weird Science:
“That’s not a joke, that is a severe behavioral disorder! Those are women’s underpants! I mean, the next thing you know you’ll be wearing a bra on your head.”

Love This!! Excellent choice of The Beatles’ “I’m Looking Through You”
