It’s All Action with the JOHN WICK Kill Counter

We here at Nerdist can’t get enough of John Wick. It’s easily one of our favorite movies of 2014 and one of the best action flicks to come around in decades. Part of the reason we love it? The balls-out, gun-fu nature of a lot of the fight scenes; the movie was directed by renowned stunt and action choreographers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch after all. Keanu Reeves plays a very bad man killing off other very bad men by the dozen for a very good reason, which is what all the best revenge films of old have given us. John Wick may as well be Lee Marvin in Point Blank, or Michael Caine in Get Carter, just with a much, much higher body count.

And it’s this high body count that drew YouTuber Nick DiNizio to make a supercut of all of the non-Craig Ferguson Mr. Wick’s kills into a handy 7 minute video, complete with counter of death. I like the way DiNizio approaches this; it’s not just a blind hashing together of murders, but he actually gives us some context for them by splicing together the inciting incident with Wick’s decision to exact righteous retribution.

Obviously, this is SPOILER CITY, so if you haven’t seen John Wick, A) what’re you doing with your life? and 2) you probably ought to go do that first before coming back. Maybe try counting yourself to see if you match!

What I think I love most about this is that we get the deaths not in chronological order, but in thematic order, with the killing of the person responsible for John’s grief put at the end, even though that’s definitely not the end of the movie. Well done, this.
