IT COMES AT NIGHT Trailer Has a Ton of Scary Stuff Going on

From the looks of its latest trailer, Trey Edward Shults’ forthcoming horror-thriller picture It Comes at Night has a lot of irons in the fire. The ground-floor conceit has a family (effectively led by Joel Edgerton and Riley Keough) holed up in a woodland cabin for fear of whatever great horror is plaguing the outside world. Toss another family into the mix–an ostensibly innocent bunch seeking refuge from the same mysterious threat–and you’ve got a whole new source of tension. But wait, there’s more! Check out the trailer and try to keep track of all the mayhem being tossed your way.

Gas masks, strangers tied to trees, forbidden doors that are discovered to have been open inexplicably, talk of haunting infections, and–the real kicker–that one shot of a young woman regurgitating black ooze upon her sleeping houseguest’s face. All in all, Shults isn’t exactly packing lightly for his first foray into the horror sphere.

But if it seems like he’s overcompensating with an abundance of harebrained conceits, don’t worry. Though not a horror flick, Shults’ 2016 film Krisha was no doubt effectively chilling and tense. If he can reproduce the vivacity of mood for It Comes at Night, and in the company of creepy doors and demon vomit, then we should be in for a film that more than knows how to handle its cavalcade of spooks and threats.

What do you find to be the most horrifying of the trailer’s many horrifying elements? Let us know!
