Gather your DnD group ’round the hearth because it’s almost time for Stranger Things. Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, the first full-length trailer for season 2 shows us what the boys have been up to since Eleven’s disappearance and the Demogorgon’s defeat. Apparently, they spend a lot of time at the arcade (playing Dragon’s Lair no less) and making 80s references.
But the trailer was not all 80s nostalgia; it also featured a heavy dose of horror and intrigue. Will, it seems, has been changed by his time in the upside down and is caught between realms. Season 2’s giant, tentacled monster is calling to him, and who knows how long before he succumbs?
The use of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, in which Jackson reveals he was a werewolf the whole time, might indicate that Will is a thrall of the upside down, serving its will (hah) even if he does not yet know it. Whereas last season saw the boys doing their best to convince the adults that something supernatural was occurring, this season might see Will (and eventually the boys) hiding his connection to the Demogorgon and its world.
But Will isn’t the only one connected to the upside down. Eleven has been trapped there since the end of season 1. Hopefully she reunites with the gang early on, but expect to spend a lot of time in the upside down with her, whether attempting to escape or doing some digging.
What do you think? Is Will the secret villain of season 2? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter.
