It wasn’t all that long ago that rumors began to surface that Mark Ruffalo was slated to join the cast of Captain America: Civil War. These rumors were fueled by comments made by Robert Downey Jr to the press about the Hulk appearing in the film, not to mention Ruffalo being spotted on set. But then Marvel made it clear that although Hulk was in earlier versions of Civil War, the addition of Spider-Man and other characters made the film too crowded, and that they had “other plans for the character.”
According to a report this week from JoBlo, what those plans might be is starting to take shape. If their sources are to be believed, it looks like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk could be appearing in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. In what capacity he would appear is still unknown, but with Iron Man essentially a co-lead in Captain America’s third movie, it seems the powers that be thought that having Hulk in a Thor movie might give it a little extra boost. Although Thor: The Dark World performed reasonably well and did better at the box office than the first Thor film, it didn’t increase its box office take in the same way that Captain America: The Winter Solder did over Cap’s first movie. Maybe adding the Hulk will give the third Thor film that little extra oomph it needs.
The original report also adds that part of Ragnarok with be taking place on a mysterious third world, not Asgard or Earth. Could it be Hel? Given that the title of the movie is Ragnarok, that’s one of the other nine realms that is likely appearing. Thor: Ragnarok is being written by Chris Yost and Craig Kyle and is being directed by What We Do In The Shadows‘ Taika Waititi. Chris Hemsworth is of course returning as the God of Thunder, with Tom Hiddleston fully expected to return as Loki, along with Jamie Alexander as Sif. Thor: Ragnarok is currently set for a November 3, 2017 release.
