Parenthood, the not-very-broad but critically adored family-drama from Friday Night Lights scribe Jason Katims, has been a staple of the NBC lineup since its premiere in 2010. Despite initially facing behind-the-scenes complication with the unplanned replacement of Maura Tierney in the role of Sarah Braverman, the series has turned itself into a show audiences deeply love (and hate, for the amount of tissues they have to buy every week). The current word is that the show is set to be renewed for one final, short-order season, but now it seems everything might be in jeopardy.
Because the show boasts such a large ensemble cast of very A-list talent (Sam Jaeger alone already has a role in Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper), according to Deadline Hollywood, in an attempt to cut costs, NBC has apparently asked the cast to lower their episode guarantee from 13 to 9. This would mean that, under the preposed deal, every actor would only appear in (and get paid for) 9 of the rumored 13 episodes the network is looking to order. The cast, however, each want to be guaranteed for the full 13-episode order in their contracts.
It would be a shame to think one of the best dramas on television could have the rug pulled out from under it all because of a contract dispute, but as it stands, this battle over episode count could go that way. With NBC set to formally announce its fall schedule on Sunday, the clock is ticking.

I can not believe you’ve canceled one, if only, the best show on tv! Everyone I know is very upset about this! The cast was fabulous … All of them! Why is it the only shows that are allowed to run are either violent or stupid reality garbage? Yuck!Hopefully this show will be picked up by someone else…

I love parenthood so much! Although I do follow Chicago PD and Chicago Fire, I would much rather them cut BOTH of them than cancel parenthood. And parenthood should be renewed for multiple seasons, not just one. If they need to advertise more for parenthood to get more followers, than so be it. Once people start watching, they will fall in love.
This is such a great show and NBC is just wrong in wanting to end it. They can’t be that broke. Damn cut some of the Today show out. All the traveling they do. grrr. I want this show to stick around. It is the one show I LOVE I feel a part of the Braverman family

The had a rough season last year but this last one was pretty great. I hope they keep it.
This show is one of the only consistently great shows on TV period. The acting is incredible, and the writing even better. It’s staple is honesty–trying to honestly portray the complications and contradictory simplicity of being part of a family. We need more shows like this, not more failed sitcoms and cop dramas.
This is unbelievable. The one quality program on NBC that my friends and I look forward to every week is in danger of being cancelled. If NBC wants to cut costs, they should pick on one of their other far inferior shows. God know they have enough of them!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! Parenthood is one of the best shows on TV. No blood and guts and gore just a great show about life and a wonderful ensemble cast that deserves to ALL be there for all 13. How do you take one part from the puzzle and finish the puzzle. It is about family as a whole. We need more shows like this and less cops and gore shows.

I absolutely love this show..Its so good..Almost every episode pulls the water from my eyes..
Because of the ever erratic number of episodes per season (1 – 13, 2 – 22, 3 – 18, 4 – 16, 5 – 22) I’ve been expecting it to be cancelled every year, but have been happily surprised whenever it returns.
I would like it to continue, but this year’s season finale would be a fine conclusion. If it must go, I think I would be OK with it.
