Happy Wednesday, comics fans, and welcome to your mid-week edition of Comics Relief! To start off today’s column, we’ve got a few more hints and guesses as to what Marvel’s upcoming “MU” series might all be about. Read on for all the details.

What is Marvel’s MU? And Will Wolverine or the Fantastic Four Return?

Over the past week, Marvel Comics has been teasing something called “MU.” The assumption is that the title means “Marvel Universe”, but so far we know very little about it — except for the creators involved. So far, we’ve got names like Adam Kubert, Greg Land, Steve McNiven and Cullen Bunn attached to this project, as announced via a series of teaser poster reveals.

The favorite guesses are that the series will feature the return of Reed and Sue Richards of the Fantastic Four, who were last seen at the end of Secret Wars going off into the cosmos and rebuilding the Marvel multiverse. (My opinion? The FF is staying on ice till Marvel Studios gets the rights to that property back).

The other popular guess, which I happen to think is correct, is that this is the return of Wolverine to the Marvel Universe. The MU logo looks like it’s steel with slash marks….when Logan died he was encased in adamantium. Is he about to claw his way out? C’mon…it was only a matter of time before he came back. We’ll find out on Thursday, when Marvel reveales just what MU really is. [Newsarama, Bleeding Cool]

Viz Media Launches More Pokémon Titles This Fall

I think it’s safe to say that summer 2016 was owned by the Pokémon brand, thansk to a certain app that became America’s latest fad. In an effort to cash in a little on America’s renewed Pokémon obsession, Viz Media is debuting several more manga titles based on the property this fall. Scheduled for September release, Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire is the new series by Pokémon Adventures creators, Hidenori Kusaka and Satoshi Yamamoto, and is inspired by the best-selling video games.

Then in October, the Pokémon Pocket Comics Box Set brings together fan favorite Pokémon comics and trivia in a nice and compact two-volume box set. Volume 1 contains the Pokémon Black and White characters, and Volume 2 features other legendary characters from the Pokémon series. With all this Pokémon, will you be finally Pokémon-ed out by Christmas??  [Comics Beat]

Vampire Hunter D Comes to Stranger Comics

While we’re on the subject of manga and anime, one of the most popular anime films of the ’80s was Vampire Hunter D, which was originally a series of Japanese novels before being adapted into an animated film back in 1985. Vampire Hunter D was one of the first anime films ever distributed in the West, and along with Robotech helped introduce a whole generation of American fans to anime. Oddly enough, the series wasn’t adapted into manga form until 2007. Now nearly a decade later, the series is getting a new comic book series, thanks to the folks at Stranger Comics.

Marvel Cancels Nighthawk After Just Six Issues

Farewell, Nighthawk…we hardly knew ya. Yes, despite much critical acclaim, Marvel’s Nighthawk series has indeed been canceled after just six issues. According to series writer David F. Walker, who posted about the cancellation on Twitter, he says there wasn’t anything more behind this decision from the publisher other than low sales.

“Some people are concerned because Nighthawk was not among Marvel’s solicitations for November. This is an unfortunate reality of comics,” said Walker. “Quality is not always enough to guarantee success. Comic books are an industry that is driven by money and sales. Sad but true.” The series only launched this past May, with artist Ramon Villalobos. All is not lost however, as Walker said that Marvel does plan to release a collected edition of Nighthawk #1 through #6 sometime in 2017. [Newsarama]

Comixology Unlimited Adds Tons of Titles This Fall

Comixology’s new comiXology Unlimited service is adding a whole bunch of new titles this coming September from publishers like Dark Horse Comics, IDW, BOOM! and and many others. Among the titles this fall in comiXology Unlimited are Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 10, Archie Meets KISS: Deluxe Edition, B.P.R.D.: 1946, Bloodshot Reborn, Transformers, and whole lot more. DC Reveals New Variant Rebirth Covers for September

DC Comics has just released their series of variant covers for the month of September for their Rebirth titles, including our first look at new Wonder Woman variant cover artist Jenny Frisson’s take on the Amazing Amason. Frisson is replacing artist Frank Cho after his controversial exit from the title a month or so back. Also among the new variants are covers for Titans, Hellblazer, Deathstroke, Batgirl, Suicide Squad, and Batman Beyond.
