Yesterday, the World Wide Web was dedicated to one thing and one thing only: Marvel’s very own Web-Head. Latino-Review broke the news that Drew Goddard is in line to write and direct Sony and Marvel’s rebooted Spider-Man standalone movie. Though the film isn’t slated to hit theaters until 2017, speculation is at a fever pitch over what direction the franchise will take now that Spider-Man is entering into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Will they go with Peter Parker or will they opt for the Ultimate Universe’s Miles Morales? Needless to say, it has our Spider-Sense tingling on overdrive.

I can’t take anything the Latino Review says seriously. They make bold outlandish claims and I have yet to see one come true. I am still waiting on the World War Hulk or Planet Hulk solo movie they promised.
That being said. This rumor is more plausible and being a Joss Whedon fan having Goddard on board as a part of the MCU is a good thing now that we know that Avengers 2 is most likely the end of Whedon’s time as a writer and director for Marvel.
For me two things were going to spell the end for Marvel. One micro managing the Marvel movies to the point where they squeeze out all of the originality of the movies they put on screen which they did with Ant-man and the removal of Edgar Wright from the director’s chair. Two Joss Whedon leaving Marvel to focus on other projects. His ingenuity and knowledge of what made the characters special and all the conflicts among said characters made him integral to what makes Marvel movies interesting. His loss would spell the end of me going to see a Marvel film automatically. With Goddard on board their is hope if eventually is allowed the creative freedom of Whedon.
