Is America Ready for Marvel’s U.S.AVENGERS?

This fall, Marvel will once again relaunch its titles under the Marvel NOW! initiative. And for the New Avengers, it means that the team is taking a more patriotic turn in U.S.Avengers, a new ongoing series from writer Al Ewing and artist Paco Medina. Just in time for the holiday weekend!

As related by Marvel to The Washington Post, U.S.Avengers will put Roberto da Costa’s problems with the American government behind him, as Avengers Idea Mechanics gets rebranded as American Intelligence Mechanics as an officially sanctioned organization designed to replace S.H.I.E.L.D. Which, obviously, raises some questions about what’s happening with S.H.I.E.L.D. after Civil War II wraps up.

New Avengers members Cannonball, Pod, and Squirrel Girl will remain with the new team, alongside Red Hulk, who has apparently been re-powered after his last fight with the original Hulk. Also joining the team are two surprise additions: the first is Toni Yinsen, the new Iron Patriot who happens to be the daughter of Ho Yinsen, the man who co-created the first Iron Man armor with Tony Stark. The other newcomer is Danielle Cage, the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones from 30 years in the future…where she’s better known as Captain America!

“We wanted a couple of members that’d speak to the U.S. in the title — hence super-scientist and supporting player Dr. Toni Ho stepping up to the main team as the new Iron Patriot, and General Ross waiting in the wings as the Red Hulk,” explained Ewing while speaking with The Washington Post. “And, of course, Danielle Cage, the Captain America of about thirty years in the future, who’ll be joining us for at least the first arc, as an enemy from her time comes to ours to stir up trouble.”

That enemy is none other than the Golden Skull, a villain who made his debut in the Avengers: Ultron Forever storyline alongside the adult Danielle Cage. Ewing also hinted at additional members for the new team, and it’s rumored that Todd Ziller a.k.a. American Kaiju will be among them.

U.S.Avengers will be released this fall.
