An Athlete Won a Gold Medal While Wearing an IRON MAN Helmet

Move over, Tony Stark! There’s a new Iron Man in South Korea at the Winter Olympics. Yun Sung-Bin put on a helmet based upon the armored Avenger during his final runs in the skeleton–and if you’re not familiar with the event, it involves going head first down an icy track on a small sled. Yun’s flashy choice of attire already captured the attention of viewers, but his performance may have cemented his legend in his home country. Yun won the gold, and he made it look easy. While we can’t understand what the South Korean commentators are saying in this clip, their excitement is palpable.

Via NBC News, Yun’s win is the first time South Korea has ever taken home the gold for the skeleton. In fact, only a handful of countries have previously been able to win in the category; South Korea is now the tenth country to do so. Yun’s Iron Man fandom also seems appropriate because turning himself into a torpedo/missile-like object is something that is very Tony Stark. It was also impressive to see how much control Yun had as he sped though the course.

Even Jon Favreau took notice:

If it seemed like Yun knew this course like the back of his head, it’s probably because he did. This a course Yun has practiced on many times before, which gave him more than enough experience to pull off this feat. NBC News is reporting many athletes have crashed on this course during the lugger and skeleton events, and yet Yun seemed almost positively serene as  he blew through the course. We admire such skill and conference.
