Thwarting evil corporate baddies? Taking on entire shadowy ninja organizations? Making time for a little bit of love? It seems Iron Fist is gearing up for that classic New York City experience that we all have at some point in our lives. In the latest trailer for Marvel’s Iron Fist, we get to see a bit more of Danny Rand, what he’s capable of, and what he’s back in New York to accomplish.
Despite how great it is to get a new MCU movie every few years, we’re far more interested in what Marvel and Netflix have in store for us with Iron Fist. While it’s a bit hard to ignore the Batman/Bruce Wayne parallels with a character like Rand (especially after this trailer) there’s really no need to worry about too much thematic crossover. With the length of a Netflix series, Danny (Finn Jones) will have time to make his case as something different and show us just how badass a character like Iron Fist truly is.
With superhero movies, we know we’re in for an hourlong chunk of storytelling, some in-jokes, and a lot of action. Honestly, we rarely ever have enough time to get to know the character at hand. Thankfully, things are much different with the shows that Marvel and Netflix have been producing. With more episodes (and thus more time) we get to see stories unfold like they do in the comics allowing the audience to really invest in the characters and their development. This has been true with each of the other Defenders teammates and we know it’ll be the case for Iron Fist. This is also true with our our favorite audience analog Claire “sort of but not really Night Nurse” Temple who’s back again to be incredulous about the things she sees and, most likely, bring the whole Defenders team together by the end of the series.
