Now that the first season of Luke Cage has arrived, only one of Netflix’s four original Marvel series remains: Iron Fist. And while we’re still waiting for a closer look at the story of Danny Rand and his heroic alter ego, Netflix’s newest Iron Fist teaser has at least revealed when we can expect to see its title hero in action.
In a very minimalistic video featuring Iron Fist’s dragon emblem rising from some kind of vase or container, Netflix has announced that all 13 episodes of the series will drop on March 17, 2017. As such, we may be in for three new Marvel series on Netflix in 2017. Jon Bernthal has been spotted filming The Punisher series, and The Defenders team up miniseries is also on deck with a story that will bring Iron Fist into the orbit of Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil as they come together to face a common threat.
But first, fans need a formal introduction to Iron Fist himself. He was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane during Marvel’s martial arts craze in 1974. Former Game of Thrones cast member Finn Jones will portray Danny Rand/Iron Fist, who we’ll find returning to New York over a decade after he and his parents were betrayed during a trip to Asia. Only Danny survived this ambush; he was then raised in the mystical city of Kâun-Lun, which prepared him mentally and physically for his eventual quest to reclaim his family’s legacy and his drive to bring justice to those who wronged him.
The official Iron Fist twitter account also dropped a pic of Jones in action, but there’s currently no sign of Iron Fist’s comic book costume.
