Thank you, Danny Rand, for trimming down the Justin Timberlake curls. It’s a better look.
Rumor (and a Comic-Con panel) has it that the look gets even better later in the series, as he actually dons the classic Iron Fist costume for at least one fight scene. But we don’t get to see that in this teaser just yet. Instead, it’s a reminder that Rand is a man who packs a magic punch, and he’s ready to use it to take the city back.
The official synopsis reveals that Danny is basically stepping up in the absence of Daredevil post-Defenders, “but a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity âand he must conquers his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart.” His villains won’t just be metaphorical: Alice Eve joins the cast as Typhoid Mary, who in the comics is a telekinetic with multiple personality disorder. One of her personalities would never hurt anyone; the other will spontaneously cause them to burst into flames. How much of that we’ll see in the more muted Netflix Marvel-verse remains to be seen. Fortunately for Iron Fist, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing are still around to help out, though there’s no official mention yet of Luke Cage. Heroes for Hire is still a ways off, it seems.
Iron Fist took a bit of a hit from viewers in its first season, but it’s better than some gave it credit for; we all agree Danny Rand has flaws, and the ending of season one seems to contend with those better than expected. Now let’s see if the next installment will truly make us root for him! We’ll see Sept. 7.
