Into the Woods Reveals the Big Bad Wolf & More In First Set Pictures

Disney has released new images from the set of Into the Woods which will hit theaters December 25th. While we have seen a first look at Meryl Streep’s highly-anticipated portrayal of the Witch, this is the only set of official set pictures to be found.

The pictures below feature James Corden as the Baker and Meryl Streep as the Witch; Daniel Huttlestone as Jack and Tracy Ullman as his mother; Emily Blunt as the Baker’s Wife alongside her on-screen love; MacKenzie Mauzy and Billy Magnussen as Rapunzel and her Prince; Lilla Crawford as Red Riding Hood; Anna Kendrick as Cinderella (We’re hoping for a magical mice rendition of the Cups Song in DVD extras); Chris Pine as Prince Charming; Lucy Punch, Tammy Blanchard and Christine Baranski as evil stepsisters and stepmother; and finally Johnny Depp as the Wolf.

Into the Woods features not-so-traditional takes on classic fairy tales and debuted originally at the Old Globe Theatre in San Deigo, California in 1986 before moving to Broadway in 1987. Stephen Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics, and James Lapine wrote the book. The original Broadway run won multiple Tony Awards, and it has had multiple successful revivals. The 2014 film adaptation is being directed by Rob Marshall, and both Sondheim and Lapine have been involved in the production.

We can’t wait for an official trailer to see all these actors in action!

  1. It’s a shame that Disney is butchering the original moral/story/point of this musical. Visually it looks stunning, and the cast is phenomenal, but if they’re going to mess with the story, I’m not interested.

    • John says:

Sondheim said later that he was misquoted and that the latest cut of the film -is- faithful to the play.  So I guess it depends on whether he’s being honest.

  2. Kendall says:

I am so excited about this movie! I loved the original Broadway production, and I think they’ve got a great cast lineup for the movie! I’m probably most excited to see the song “Agony”.
