What’s this? You didn’t know the movie The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec existed? Well, neither did we. This is an adventure film from French director Luc Besson (he of Leon: The Professional and The Fifth Element fame) that came out in 2010 but is only just now getting a release in the US.

It’s based on a French comic book series by Jacques Tardi about a girl in 1910s Paris who gets embroiled in various fantastical and supernatural exploits. In this adventure, Adele gets mixed up in the advanced technology of Ancient Egyptians and dinosaurs. Interesting mixture, eh? And, it’s always nice to see a cool, ass-kicking lady as the lead of a movie. The film was a big hit overseas and will see a release on Blu-ray and DVD here on August 13th.

What do you think? Look interesting? And what are your favorite early-20th Century adventures? Tell us in the comments below.

YES! This is a criminally underseen pic and, in my opinon, is much more of a spirited, humanist romp than either Crystal Skull or the new Tin Tin.

I caught a showing of this at a SciFi con in Minneapolis last year. It’s wonderful, I’m staggered it hadn’t been released here yet.

  3. Sheldon J says:

I’m in. I’m a sucker for a female lead in action flicks.

It’s about goddamn time! A friend of mine imported a DVD and it’s amazing.
