Incredible 593-Foot Basketball Shot Sets New World Record

The height of an NBA basketball hoop is 10 feet. People of all ages and sizes can, and do, make that shot all the time. Every day across the globe, in gyms, courtyards, and driveways, over hundreds of thousands of basketballs are successfully thrown through regulation nets. It’s not easy to be good at it, but almost everyone can do it with enough practice.

The height from the top of the Mauvoisin Dam in Switzerland, on the other hand, is 593.73 feet. In stark contrast, only one person in the history of the world has made a basketball shot from that height, setting a world record in the process.

drop-wide

The guys from the YouTube channel How Ridiculous, who have entertained us before by merely dropping items from high locations, placed one those backyard basketball nets at the bottom of the beautiful and picturesque dam and sank a shot clean through, executing arguably the most impressive swish in basketball history.

Making the feat even more impressive, they hit the basket on what was only their third attempt. It’s not about merely aiming, it’s also about accounting for the forces that are placed on the ball, which can be totally insane. You might remember the last time we showed you a basketball dropped from a high place, and just how significantly the elements can effect it.

So while we’re not disparaging the skill needed to repeatedly sink shots on a 10-foot hoop, we’d definitely like to see Steph Curry take aim from 593 feet.
