In Honor of National Cheetos Day: Hot Cheetos Sriracha Chicken Wings

March 5th is National Cheetos Day, so get a Cheetos-style mani and start handing out orange powdered fingered high fives… It’s time to celebrate the beloved cheese-flavored cornmeal snack!

According to Frito-Lay’s website there are 16 different types of Cheetos currently on the market, including their sweet new version, the aptly named Sweetos. However, around the world Cheetos come in all kinds of flavors that aren’t quite on par with the U.S. palate. How about Cheetos Brown Sugar Cube or Cheetos Strawberry? Or if you’re feeling extra extreme, there’s always Mountain Dew flavored Cheetos.

To honor the revered junk food (even Katy Perry dressed like one… seriously), here’s a recipe to satisfy all your indulgences in one. Chicken wings, bathed in Sriracha, breaded with Hot Cheetos. I’m sorry and you’re welcome.

Hot Cheetos Sriracha Chicken Wings
(makes 20 wings)

ingredients:
– 20 chicken wings
– 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
– salt and pepper
– 1 egg
– 1/4 cup Sriracha
– 1 cup Hot Cheetos, crushed

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Prep a baking sheet by lining it with foil, then placing a wire rack on top, brushed with oil.

Prep two shallow dishes. The first with flour, whisked together with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.

In the second shallow dish whisk the egg with the Sriracha.

Place the crushed Hot Cheetos in a large gallon sized plastic zip bag.

Rinse and pat dry the chicken. Dip the chicken into the flour mixture, shaking off the excess. Then into the egg mixture, and finally place it into the bag of crushed Hot Cheetos and shake to coat.

Place the chicken wings on the prepped wire rack baking sheet. Bake for 30-35 minutes until cooked through.

Made them and the recipe needs work.  First shaking them with the cheetos resulted in the coating and cheetos forming an unappetizing paste whilst leaving the wings naked. So maybe a quick dredge in cheetos for each wing individually is better than the plastic bag method.
Second, the cooking time is a little long. Start checking on doneness starting at 25 minutes.

We could just flip this & make them with Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetoes & call it a day!
