Important Details for The STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT Beta on PS4

The open beta for Star Wars Battlefront starts in only a few days and the anticipation is pants-pissingly high. To kick the hype train into overdrive, EA and DICE took to the Playstation blog to inform players of important details and answer questions about the upcoming trek into a galaxy far, far away. Here is a breakdown of some of the most important things we learned in reading their post. The beta announcement we ran recently also carries some details, such as what modes and maps are available to play in beta.

  • The beta will run from October 8 to October 12, but exact times will vary by region. There will be expected down times and resets throughout that period since it is a technical beta.
  • The beta download will be 7GBs and can be downloaded from the Playstation Store.
  • The beta is open to be played by any PS4 owner with an internet connection. Yes, for clarification: a Playstation Plus account is not require to participate in the beta.
  • Players will be able to pilot various vehicles in the beta including X-wings, A-wings, TIE Fighters, TIE Interceptors, AT-STs, Snow Speeders, and they will also be able to man the canons on the AT-AT walkers.
  • Each side will have access to a limited number of weapons to use, with a few being unlockable through Star Cards, but the beta will not feature the full array of weapons that the final game will.
  • Players will be able to play two-player split-screen on PS4, but only in the Survival Mission on Tatooine.
  • Characters will not be customizable in the beta, but instead, a randomly generated character model for each match.
  • Though you’ll continue to unlock items after the fact, the level cap for the beta is five.
  • Players will have access to play as either Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker heroes in the Walker Assault game mode if they collect the hero power-ups around the map.

Finally, speaking of hero characters, a video was released that highlights some Luke Skywalker kill streak action. Decked out in his Return of the Jedi attire–which includes his green lightsaber–Luke definitely lays the smackdown on the battlefield. His force push is quite handy at clearing out multiple enemies, and he is even capable of taking down AT-ST walkers by himself with his Saber Rush. Needless to say, seeing Luke or Vader on the battlefield will be a harrowing experience for anyone on their opposing teams during the beta.

Be sure to check out the blog post over on Playstation for all of the details, as well as some tips and hints from DICE about playing in the beta. Also, be sure to leave a comment on how excited you are for the beta in the section below!
