IDW Announces New BORDERLANDS Comic, THE FALL OF FYRESTONE

You’d think with two games coming out this year (Tales From the Borderlands and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel) we’d have more than enough Borderlands on the way. Comics publisher IDW and developer Gearbox don’t seem to think so, announcing a new miniseries based on the co-op shooter for this July.

Borderlands: The Fall of Fyrestone, the followup to Borderlands: Origins, is being billed as a new entry in the franchise canon with Vault Hunters Roland, Mordecai, Lilith, and Brick getting into some trouble in the titular city. Borderlands franchise writer Mikey Neumann – he wrote the first game as well as Origins – is handling the script with Agustin Padilla on art. IDW didn’t release any preview pages, but that cover sure looks fun.

2012’s Origins told the story of how the Vault Hunters ended up on the bus with Marcus, leading them on a quest for loot and forming the basis of the events of the first game. Between prequels Tales and The Pre-Sequel, Gearbox has been making a push to flesh out this universe a bit.

IDW released this quote from Neumann:

“Since we finished up Origins, I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to continue onward in the story now that the Vault Hunters have met up on the bus,” says Neuman. “No, seriously. I’ve been waiting outside of Tom Waltz’s house since we shipped the last issue. My hair has birds in it and I’ve been forced to eat them for nourishment. Tom doesn’t look at me the same way anymore, but I know he’s just as excited to be back (and also chuffed that I’m off his lawn).”
