Idiot Box 2: A TV Inspired Art Exhibition At Gallery 1988

Well, there goes any hope of holding onto any modicum of expendable income I may have had. Gallery 1988 is holding the second iteration since 2009 of their “Idiot Box” exhibition showcasing some incredible TV themed pieces.

On display through May 16th at their West Hollywood location, “Idiot Box 2: Artwork Inspired By Television” will bridge the gap between the artistic world and the ol’ boob tube aficionados. Check out the gallery below for some of the exhibitions offerings. One of the most timeless debates will finally be settled – which Russian nesting dolls are better, Batman or Breaking Bad? My vote is for the Breaking Bad dolls. Tiny pink teddy bear beats tiny penguin any day.

The Bob’s Burgers ones are great too. Bob as a burger himself is great of course but the Tina Belcher print pretty much takes the cake with her “Uhhhhhhhhh” glasses frames. Additionally, I know I’m setting myself up for some criticism here (hey, it’s art, we can each take what we want from it) but despite the absolutely luxurious velvet painting of Lucille Bluth, I’ve got to give big ups to the portrait of the original hipster Steven Quincy Urkel, if only for the accordion neck tattoo.

Follow Gallery1988 on Twitter and Instagram as they continue to post more of the featured art and be sure to check out “Idiot Box 2” while you can.

Check out the gallery below for some of the featured pieces from Idiot Box 2? What are your favorites? Are you as hopeful as I am that the Breaking Bad nesting dolls are commissioned from the artist for mass production so that we can all enjoy them in our own homes? Let us know in the comments below!
