Idina Menzel’s WONDER WOMAN 75 Playlist is Truly Amazonian

Wonder Woman is celebrating her 75th anniversary this year, and fans everywhere have been reminiscing about how DC Comics‘ Amazing Amazon helped inspire them in their lifetime. Many have spoken about how the Lynda Carter television incarnation of the character in particular showed them that there’s no limits to what a woman can accomplish if she sets her mind to it, even in a “man’s world,” to use a Wonder Woman comic book term.

Now another wonderful woman is showing her love for the DC’s iconic #1 heroine — Idina Menzel, the Tony award-winning singer who is one of the biggest Broadway stars in history, known for her roles in Rent, If/Then. and most famously for originating the role of Elphaba in the smash hit Wicked.

As if all that wasn’t enough, Idina Menzel reached another level of fame as the voice of Elsa in Frozen, and her song “Let it Go” is now one of the most iconic Disney songs of all time. Between Elphaba and Elsa, Menzel knows a thing or two about strong women with superpowers. Now, DC Entertainment has asked Menzel to show her love for Wonder Woman by compiling a Wonder Woman 75 playlist for Spotify, featuring songs by powerful women who have influenced her.

Idina Menzel included some of the most popular and influential female vocalists of the past fifty years on this playlist, including Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Donna Summer, Carly Simon, Beyonce, Stevie Nicks, Annie Lennox and several others, for a total of 25 songs (although Pink and Gwen Stefani made in to the playlist but Madonna, Cher, and Tina Turner didn’t? Who are more immortal Amazons than those three?? They’d survive a nuclear war. Just sayin’).

You can listen to Idina Menzel’s entire Wonder Woman 75 Spotify Playlist below, and to read here thoughts on why she chose the first five songs, be sure to read the full story on DC’s blog.
