ICYMI: Trailer for JUSTICE LEAGUE: WAR

I truly never tire of DC Comics direct-to-DVD animated features. There have been some truly phenomenal adaptations of timeless story arcs (The New Frontier and The Dark Knight Returns really stand out to me), and now they’re back for another, much more recent title. When the New 52 began a few years ago, the flagship book was Justice League by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, who regrew the team from the ground up, showing us the new first meetings of Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, and Shazam. They don’t always get along. The new film Justice League: War, which will be released in March of 2014, animates this meeting of the superpowers (and the guy in a bat suit) as they are forced to team up to fight the worst worstie of them all, Darkseid.

As always, DC populates their films with a stellar cast, including Alan Tudyk, Jason O’Mara, Michelle Monaghan, Sean Astin, Shemar Moore, and Justin Kirk. The venerable voice actor Steve Blum will provide the voice of Darkseid, and the former voice of Superman, George Newbern, will voice Wonder Woman’s ally Steve Trevor. That’s nuts, man! That’d be like if Kevin Conroy voiced Perry White or something.

You can catch all the excitement and superheroism when Justice League: War drops on March 18th, 2014.

Is it me, or did Superman get less screen time in the trailer than everyone else? Seriously! He’s the flagship character for crying outloud. You don’t think he deserves more recognition than that magic-based rip-off Shazam (aka Captain Marvel).

I hope Superman and Batman are co-leaders in this. As much as I love Bats, I’m sick of that guy always being in charge when it’s Supes who stands in the middle of nearly every justice league photo and serves as a symbol of hope as opposed to intimidation. That makes no sense.

That aside, the trailer was AWESOME! Can’t wait for this! Better pre-order so I don’t end up walking three miles just to buy it from a store that didn’t run out of copies like I had to with Man of steel. Seriously. TDKR didn’t sell that good when I went and I LOVE that movie.

  2. Yojimbo says:

March 18, 2014 is the release date for the 2 disc special edition only. The general release is February 4, 2014.

  3. Geek Bob says:

I believe the word was that Aquaman was not included as he will be getting his own title in the near future, perhaps after War.

  4. Randall says:

It looks great, but why do they always replace Aquaman whenever the Justice League is presented in another medium other than comics? Geoff Johns’ Aquaman run has been one of the best in the new 52. Don’t get me wrong I’m always up for more Captain Marvel… but can’t we have both!?

  5. vjj says:

This looks even worse than the comic book, which was pretty bad to begin with.

It’s so sad to see the DC Animated Universe to have fallen so far in quality.

  6. Orlando says:

My only gripe with this is the fact that they replaced Aquaman with Shazam. The New 52 has been great for the Aquaman character, so i’m not sure why they decided to change it.

  7. James says:

Jason O’Mara? aw i liked these, now they’re going to be cancelled…

  8. Alan says:

Not a fan of Wonder Soman’s outfit…Kevin Conroy is the voice of Batman, why won’t they just use him…that being said, the mvie looks awesome
