ICYMI: HEARTHSTONE Released for Mobile Devices

We had a blast celebrating Mortal Kombat day yesterday, and we hope you did too.Whether you’ve been hard at work practicing combos, or relishing in the news of Guitar Hero Live making its way to homes this fall, you still should take notice of some cool recent developments in the video game world. Yesterday’s gaming highlights included some very good news about Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, a casting development in the BBC Grand Theft Auto movie, and some unfortunate issues PC players have been facing on Mortal Kombat X. Alright, let’s do this– LEEEROOOOOOOY…

Hearthstone

Hearthstone drops for mobile phones.

Uh oh! Is is just me or is it getting very itchy in here? Especially around my neck– I just want to scratch it, and scratch it some more. Feeling the same way? It’s probably because you too have been spending time away from your number one addiction, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. But thanks to the delightful folks at Blizzard, you no longer have to spend time away from your precious decks.

Hearthstone is now available on iTunes, Google Play and the Amazon App Store. As long as you have a phone that meets the minimum system requirements, you can go download the game and feed your card tossing craving right now. If you’re a current Hearthstone player, you’ll be happy to know that all of your card collection and progress is shared across platforms. New players will get a classic card pack to begin their Hearthstone journey. Welp, there goes the remainder of my productivity. Thank you, based Blizzard!

Bill Paxton in talks to play Jack Thompson in Grand Theft Auto film.

Um, what? Remember that Grand Theft Auto television movie that we recently reported on? Well, it appears as if its cast is about to add a pretty renowned name to its ranks, according to a recent report on Slashfilm. It is reported that Bill Paxton is in talks to assume the role of Jack Thompson in the upcoming BBC television film. And not too long after reports of Daniel Radcliffe playing co-founder of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser, surfaced on the internet.

Jack Thompson, for those who may not now, has been one of the most adamant activists against violence and sex in video games, so much so that he’s tried to get them taken off of store shelves in a mass exodus. There was a period of time where Thompson targeted Houser and Rockstar Games for Grand Theft Auto, claiming that it had no business being in stores and accessible to youngsters. Of course, Thompson’s been a bit of a villain in the eyes of the many video game enthusiasts, so it makes sense that the movie would highlight the squabbles between he and Rockstar.

On thing that must be said though: Does anyone else find it quite coincidental that Bill Paxton, the man who’s known for the prolific profound movie quote “game over, man!”, just so happens to be one of the frontrunners to assume the role of the guy who wanted games to be over with?

Okay, so maybe I thought about this a little too deeply.

Mortal Kombat X PC issues infuriate users.

Well, it couldn’t all be sunshine and daffodils for Mortal Kombat X on launch day. There’s been an overall positive response to Mortal Kombat X so far in its release today. Well, at least from everyone not playing the game on PC. Numerous reports have claimed that the game has been severely crashing and having a crap-ton of server issues.

Folks are claiming that the game crashes immediately upon trying to access any menu options. There have been a few people who’ve been able to access the single player mode, but, for the most part, reports have been very bleak. NetherRealm Studios has been actively working on a fix, but as of now, most of the “PC master race” is in disarray over this. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any added fixes and patches that occur in the coming days.

Always keep it parked here on Nerdist for all of the juicy video game developments, and to chat about our beloved medium, I’m only one tweet away: @Malik4play.
