YouTube may still be the first stop for people wanting to watch idiots hurting themselves or cats meowing adorably, but it’s also growing ever more into a place where talented and funny people can showcase their comedic wares. We know this, as do you. YouTube is recognizing this by bringing in a massive list of some of the internet’s best laugh-instillers for an entire week of side-splitting chicanery. YouTube Comedy Week will run from May 19th-25th and will showcase over 40 of the funniest people on the internet and beyond.
From the official press release:
A live, all-star comedy variety show kicks off YouTube Comedy Week with a global livestream on Sunday, May 19 at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET. Featured comedians will do a mix of stand-up, sketches and musical performances and there will be a special pre-show at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET. This event will be followed by a week of dedicated programming that includes live performances, new episodes from popular YouTube comedy channels, curated top ten lists from comedy stars and more.
YouTube’s VP of Marketing, Danielle Tiedt, said, “YouTube is the home of comedy for the next generation. If you like to laugh, come join us during Comedy Week as we celebrate the best of comedy with sketches, pranks, stand-up routines, sit-down routines, parodies, blunders, fails, live shows and unexpected collaborations in a way that only YouTube can.”
Among the very impressive list of people contributing humor to the week include Rainn Wilson, JASH, College Humor, Epic Meal Time, Funny or Die, Jimmy Kimmel, The Onion, and US!, The Nerdist Channel will be contributing a live Set List on Friday, May 24th 5-6p PT, more Set List episodes, and a Kids in the Hall sketch every day that week.
It’s a few weeks away, but that’s plenty of time to stretch the torso to strengthen it for all the laughter of which you’re inevitably going to be having fits. Tune in to YouTube.com/ComedyWeek starting May 19th and commence the giggling.
