This weekend, L.A.’s iam8bit gallery is kicking off a week-long gallery event celebrating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Cowabunga! 30 Years of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show will feature new pieces from artists from the around the world based on everyone’s favorite sewer-dwelling butt-kickers.
Welp, there goes my hard-earned money.
The all-ages event starts Saturday night at 7 at the iam8bit gallery, running through 11. And if you’re planning to attend, why not go in some of your best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cosplay (for that matter, why would you not go in your best Ninja Turtles cosplay).
If you’ve never been to an iam8bit show, they’re usually packed to the gills with original pieces from a diverse range of artists celebrating pop culture. Often, the gallery is home to video game-related shows, but that hasn’t stopped them from throwing shindigs tied to events like the launch of the second Robot Chicken DC Comics Special. Typically, most of the pieces on the wall are available for purchase during the show.
Cowabunga! will run through July 27 and is free to all attendees. Well, free if you can resist buying anything.
This is the second art show themed around the 30th anniversary of the first Eastman and Laird Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, which debuted all the way back in 1984. The other, Gallery Nucleus’s Heroes in a Half Shell show is also running through the end of the month and includes not only original pieces from fan artists, but actual works from the animated series and comics.
And in case you need all of this handy information in one place, here it is.
What’s your favorite piece? Let us know in the comments below.
