“Brian, would you like to come to Austin and shoot some kids?” That’s not exactly how the invitation to come to the Alamo Drafthouse Roadshow screening of I Declare War was presented, but when you’re told that you’re going to get to go to a place called the Stunt Ranch, play paintball with a bunch of kids and fellow journalists, and have our lives taped to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real, your mind tends to wander a bit.
The Alamo Drafthouse’s Rolling Roadshow has been a tradition of the venerable movie enthusiast company for years with screenings of The Goonies in Astoria, Oregon, The Poseidon Adventure on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, The Warriors at Coney Island, and even a screening of Close Encounters of the Third Kind at Devil’s Tower, Wyoming. With I Declare War, the team at the Alamo stayed a little closer to home by choosing The Stunt Ranch, a combination stunt school and event park. From a zip line and climbing wall to an exploding van photo booth, the Ranch has something for any adrenaline junkie. It is into this setting where we traveled to engage in colorful warfare against an army with age and agility on their side. I Declare War is available now on VOD and iTunes and in theaters Friday.
