HUNGER GAMES and TWILIGHT to Feature at Lionsgate’s 1st Amusement Park

What comes to mind when you think about The Hunger Games franchise? An arena of death where children do battle for the enjoyment of the wealthy? A bloody, violent fight for freedom? What about roller coasters and fried dough? That’ll be the case soon enough, as the world of Katniss Everdeen–along with those of Twilight, Now You See Me, and next year’s upcoming Robin Hood remake–will take form at the first ever Lionsgate Movie World amusement park, coming to South Korea in 2019.

Almost two years after we first reported it, Lionsgate and Landing Jeju Development Co. Ltd. announced in a joint press release (which we first came across at Variety) that they are opening a seven-zone theme park that will bring some of Lionsgate’s best known properties to life. The park, which will begin construction next year in 2018, will be 1.3 million square feet in size, and will become the main attraction of Jeju Shinhwa World, an “integrated resort” that opened earlier this year.

As the press release states, “Visitors can experience actual movie scenes through state-of-the-art rides, attractions and 4D Intellectual Property (IP) reproduced streets and towns. Each zone will also feature themed restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops and entertainment performances.”

Hopefully the 4D experience doesn’t include being bitten by a werewolf or vampire. Despite its amoral decadence we’ll definitely be dining at the Hunger Games zone’s Capital-themed restaurants and not the ones based on the fares of District 12. (Unless they have fried dough.)

Which other Lionsgate movies or franchises do you hope set up camp at the park? Tell us in the comments below. And if you’re still looking to fill your theme park fix, take a look at everything we know of Nintendo’s upcoming park.
