In the world of Subscription Video-on-Demand, there are many service options to choose from, including Netflix, Amazon and their little cousin Hulu. However, unlike the other two, Hulu has had some difficulty in recent years gaining ground among viewership, but a new announcement made today could change that.
According to a press release sent out by the SVOD service, Hulu is going to become the exclusive streaming home to new series including Tyrant, The Strain, Married, Youâre The Worst, Man Seeking Woman, The Comedians, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, Taboo and the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan-produced FOX event series Wayward Pines. In addition, the service will also begin offering non-exclusive streaming to Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, Itâs Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Louie, Archer, The League and Wilfred.
Under the new deal, much like the one AMC currently holds with Netflix, any series Hulu has exclusivity to will become available to viewers just prior to the premiere of a new season. So, for example, season one of The Strain will stream right before season two begins, etcâ¦
Exclusive steaming deals such as these are becoming more and more common as traditional syndication models are becomes less and less profitable within the United States (thereâs still a heavy market overseas). However, part of Huluâs problem is its infrastructure and unwillingness to offer consumers exactly what they want â ad free streams in exchange for a monthly subscription fee. However, if the contentâs good, you can usually get people to show up, so from the business end, this seems like a solid move on the part of the service.
Will you be watching any FX shows via Hulu? Let us know in the comments below.
I’ll sign up for Hulu plus as soon as they remove the ads from Hulu Plus.
I love this!
Seems like a fail to me. I’ll continue to use Hulu for my usual stuff. FX should keep their crap on their channel.
I’ll be watching FX shows on FX. *gasp*
That still wont get me to pay for Hulu. Why pay for a service with ads.
Because it’s still cheaper than basic cable.
