Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston are Coming to AMC in THE NIGHT MANAGER Miniseries

Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie in a television miniseries: has AMC been listening in to our dreams? Apparently, because that’s exactly what’s about to happen, thanks to the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter tour that the two actors would topline an adaptation of John Le Carré’s novel The Night Manager.

The series will follow former British soldier Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston) as he “navigates the shadowy recesses of Whitehall and Washington where an unholy alliance operates between the intelligence community and the secret arms trade.” That trade, it seems, is run by arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie), whose inner circle Pine must infiltrate (a/k/a become a criminal himself).

“I loved The Night Manager when it was published, and for more than 20 years have yearned to see it realized on screen; I am now thrilled and honored to have the frontest of front row seats. All the moving parts are finely machined – we just have to not mess it up,” explained Laurie.

As for Hiddleston? He’s super keen on his character. “Jonathan Pine is the most mysterious and complex kind of British hero. It’s an honor and a privilege … I’m beyond thrilled and I can’t wait.”

For a little backstory, The Night Manager is one of le Carré’s most beloved and critically acclaimed books.  First published in 1993, the spy-crime thriller was a bestseller, having been translated into over 20 languages.

What are your thoughts about the creation of a The Night Manager miniseries? Have any of you read the book? Let us hear about it in the comments!
