Although it’s long been assumed that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was going to play some kind of role in X-Men: Apocalypse, it hasn’t been announced officially by either director Bryan Singer, who’s been revealing nearly every cast member via his Instagram account, nor by studio Twentieth Century Fox.
But now it has all but been confirmed he’s in, and seemingly by accident. A Brooklyn-based leather goods company called Kika NY recently shared a photo on Instagram (via the Playlist) with the following caption:
“We were just asked to make a special duffle backpack for Hugh Jackman who is filming the new X-MEN movie in Montreal. We started sketching â The bag will be ready next week — we will keep you posted.”
The original Instagram post then quickly disappeared, meaning Fox probably got on their case and made them take it down. Nevertheless, it’s our first confirmation that Wolverine is in the movie. The question remains however, just how big will his role be. It’s clearly not going to be the same size as his role in X-Men: Days of Future Past, or Fox would be advertising the hell out of his involvement. But it will likely be much bigger than his infamous cameo in X-Men: First Class, especially if he needs props made specifically for him. How Wolverine joined the X-Men in the new, altered post Days of Future Past timeline was left as a mystery at the end of that movie, one that needs to be addressed, so it’s good that he’s being included in some capacity.
Someone who won’t be included, despite rumors earlier this year to the contrary, is Sir Ian McKellen. Recently he told Digital Spy that he won’t be making an appearance as Magneto. âI havenât heard [the rumors.] I donât think I am, no, no. Theyâre currently making the film and Iâm not in it.â
As great as McKellen is, this movie already has some seventeen cast members in it already. I’m not entirely sure there’s even room for one more at this point.
