How THE X-FILES Revival Created a UFO Crash (Exclusive)

Fox Mulder spent nine seasons (plus six episodes 15 years later) looking for proof of extraterrestrial life… or at least proof of the proof he already had. Little did he know all he had to do was check out the making-of material of his own show! In the meta universe that I’m sure exists in his own brain! Seems likely. In the above clip from the upcoming Blu-ray release of The X-Files event series, we get to see just how difficult it actually is to prove aliens were here. But we get to see them try… in the form of building a 50-foot replica of the Roswell UFO crash.

You might think making a flying saucer would be a breeze, but it took a lot of craftspeople many hours of work to replicate even just the amount of the craft that sticks out of the ground after its crash. And since it had to stick out of the ground, it had to be strong enough, through the use of a metal skeleton, to stand up on its own and not buckle and break under its weight.

There also was the added issue of marrying the physical prop with the digital effect of the UFO crashing to the ground. You might not think dirt exploding in the proper pattern makes all that much difference, but this is a show about truth, you guys. It makes ALL the difference.

The X-Files event series comes to Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday, June 14, 2016. It has a bevy of extras (like the one above) and includes deleted and extended scenes, gag reel, “The Making of a Struggle” featurette, “Season X”: an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the event series, “Monsters of the Week”: a look back at the best and scariest monsters of the original series, audio commentary and more!

Also on June 14, the complete series box set will be released, in case you want to binge on all the paranormal investigation your little heart can handle.
