How GAME OF THRONES Came to Be, Straight from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss

When you’re telling a story that is currently 4,197 pages long and counting, it’s likely to be a bit… long. But HBO knows how to edit details for time — even in a world as elaborate and detail-obsessed as Game of Thrones. Still, people do often wonder how George R.R. Martin’s fantastical novel series went from the page to the small screen, and so with that in mind, the network rolled out yet another new video to satisfy your cravings for near-daily updates on the world of Westeros (and Essos).

Narrated by Charles Dance, a.k.a. Tywin Lannister himself (because he’s scary), the 5-minute clip takes a look at not only how the show’s creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss got into the novels, but also how their idea took shape and the many road bumps, complications, and funny hiccups they’ve faced bringing such a series to television. (And yes: there are spoilers for past seasons, folks.) We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that if you’re a Game of Thrones fan — or even just a nerd for television origin stories in general — you’re going to find this entertaining. Besides, who could say no to more GoT leading up to the fourth season’s premiere? No one, not even a cranky ol’ Baratheon like Stannis.

Game of Thrones returns April 6th at 10 PM on HBO. Are you ready, citizens of the Realm? Let us know in the comments below!

The answer is Lyanna Stark. Rhaegar Targaryen would be Jon Snow’s true father. Duh.

I’ve never experienced longing on this level for tv or for literature. I need help!
