Now that Avengers: Infinity War is a one-parter… but we’re still getting two Avengers movies, everyone’s been asking the question: what’s that mysterious second flick gonna be? Find out on today’s Nerdist News! Last week, Marvel announced that the Summer 2019 follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War has become “Untitled Avengers.” While that could mean they’re just changing the name to a better sequel title than “Part Two,” we’re all wondering if “Untitled Avengers” is actually being positioned as a kick-off for Phase 4?
It wouldn’t surprise us if the movie eventually got titled “The New Avengers.” Think about it! By the time Infinity War: Part One rolls around, we’ll already have seen Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther. That’s a ton of movies to marvel at… Plot-wise, they’ll take us from establishing the secret avengers, to Doctor Strange‘s origin story, Guardians‘ heroes coming to earth to join in on the Infinity War, as well as Tony Stark racking up some frequent flier miles back and forth from Queens.
Ragnarok will bring Thor and Hulk back into the fold while pushing the MCU closer to it’s Phase 3 finale. Next, Black Panther might lead the old guard: Thor, Hulk, Cap, Iron Man, Black Widow, and Hawkeye to take the focus for an epic send-off in Infinity War. That might just lead them to save the word at a cataclysmic cost. Maybe some key members of the guard will get killed or imprisoned by a vengeful Thanos. This devastation would pave the way for Marvel to kick off Phase 4 with a major bang.
What’s the bang? Introducing audiences to a new team of heroes from Phase 3: Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and maybe even Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok. We’ll also hopefully get the heroes who’ll appear between Infinity War and the upcoming Untitled Avengers–Ant-Man and Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel. With a team like this, the future of the MCU would be safe in amazing new hands! And finally let the more seasoned characters like Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man and Chris Evans‘Â Cap finish their runs.
But what do you guys think? Are they just figuring out a better title than “Part Two?” Is “Untitled Avengers” actually just the starting point for an all-new, all-different Avengers team? Could the success of an all-new team make a statement about the future of the MCU? Let’s discuss!
