Hot Shows Happening at Nerdist Theater at Meltdown This Week!

We’re having a huge a busy week here at Nerdist Theater at Meltdown, so let’s dive right in and show you how you’ll be spending your nights the next seven days.

On Sunday, May 15th at 5pm, we’re proud to present the Nerdist Writers Series! Every Sunday in May, esteemed panelists will discuss topics like different types of writing, how they got started, what inspires them, the business side of writing, and more. Panelists will also answer your questions and give some helpful tips and tricks! This series is a must for any hopeful writer in LA, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit 826LA.

This Sunday, you’ll see Veena Sud (The Killing), Sarah Watson (Parenthood), Gary Lennon (Justified), and Bob Kushell (Samatha Who; 3rd Rock from the Sun).

Tickets are $15 for one panel, or $36 if you purchase tickets to all three panels!

After the Panel on Sunday May 15th, stick around for Matt Mira’s Day Off! Last week’s show was packed and boasted a drop-in from Kumail Nanjiani. Come watch Mira and Paul Cibis host comics of all types as they perform material never before said out loud. Also, if you’re a comic, come and test out your newest material on the Nerdist Theater at Meltdown stage! It’ll be a blast.

Signup at 7:30, show at 8pm- FREE!

Monday, May 16th at 8pm, sit back and be entertained by Movie and a Musical, when LA’s top improvisers come to Nerdist Theater to perform two incredible long forms.

Rough Cut will provide the improvised movie. You give them the lyric to a song they give you the world. And by “world” they mean “improvised movie.” From the opening shot to the closing credits Rough Cut will astonish you with movie magic. Diamond Lion is bringing the improvised musical. Yes, it’s improvised. No, they didn’t pick the music before hand. Yes, it’s amazing. More awesome than a lion – it’s a Diamond Lion!

Just $10, and tickets are found here!

Wednesday, May 18th at 8:30pm, come hunker down for another edition of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail. This week the boys welcome Myq Kaplan, Alex Koll, Andy Peters, Dave Anthony, Streeter Seidell, a video from It’s Alive Animation, and Jeff Garlin.

All this comedy for just $8, and you can get a piece of the action here!

Thursday, May 19th at 8pm, it’s time for The JoRy Hour in its second month running. Last month, Jon Dore and Rory Scovel made everyone in the audience believe that they were at a seminar for the newly dead. This month, we have no idea what they’ll do. Come and join two of the hottest comics in LA as they bring their friends (like The Sklar Brothers!) along with them to a show described as “if PeeWee’s Playhouse hosted a comedy show on acid directed by David Lynch”.

Tickets are $8 and you can get them right here!

And it doesn’t even stop there- this nerd train just keeps on rolling through the rest of May, so make sure you tune in here every Friday, and make sure you are following NerdMelt on Twitter!

  1. J Cole says:

I second Trout’s notion of having this as a podcast if possible. Would love to hear it.

  2. Damian A. Dimock says:

Maybe @nerdist ought to hit up the TWiT network and see if maybe they’d help him get some live stream going on the network so we could actually get some video on a regular basis and TWiT’s line-up gets diversified.
*(I live in Florida. It really sux knowing all this awesome stuff is happening and I can’t be there!)

  3. Kilgore Trout says:

Awww, why do I live in Chicago? That writers series sounds amazing and insightful. Any chance of those panels being recorded and put up like the creative screenwriting podcast does?

  4. JetpackBlues says:

    Matt,

You’ve got to give these guys a better head-shot to use.

    Best,

Every friday I get to be a little sad I don’t live in LA.
