We’ve all heard it: that far away, familiar jingle at dusk, drifting from a decrepit ice cream truck like a warped fairy tale gone bad. Sometimes it feels like a set up for a horror movie. How terrifying would it be if you hopped up to the little truck window and they were selling ice cream based on fright movies? Oh, the horror!
John Squires and Frank Browning did just that when they teamed up to create Ben & Jerry’s horror themed ice cream flavors. None of these are available for purchase, unfortunately, because I don’t see ‘Human Centi-Peach’ exactly flying off the shelves.
The flavors are well thought out, as are the amusing carton designs. Who wouldn’t want to spend the night cowering in the corner chowing down on a carton of ‘Heeeere’s Brownie,’ a chocolate brownie ice cream with walnut sprinkles?
The concepts range from horror memes like ‘All Outta Bubblegum’ to the coffee flavored ‘Never Sleep Again’ with Freddy peeking out of his iconic shirt as the packaging. The idea we most want to come to fruition is the cleverly named ‘Klaatu Banana Nikto’ featuring Ash in all his glory, gracing the container.
Let’s hope Ben & Jerry’s takes some of these seriously for the upcoming Halloween season. Until then, we’ll all just have to dream of Ecto Cooler ice cream.
