HORROR HAPPENINGS: UK Trailer for Eli Roth’s CLOWN and more!

Happy Sunday, Horror Nerds! Welcome back to the latest Horror Happenings. Today we have an English language trailer for the long awaited Eli Roth produced Clown, confirmed release dates for the Arnold Schwarzenegger starring zombie family drama Maggie and AHS alum Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s Me and Earl and The Dying Girl and casting news for the new CW pilot Cordon. Let’s get to it!

Eli Roth Produced Clown Gets Trailer for UK

Slowly but surely the Eli Roth-produced crazy-fest Clown is making its way to the US. After premiering in Italy last fall, a UK trailer for the horror flick has made its way online. The first half is more or less similar to the Italian trailer we saw a few months ago, the second half offers a lot more gore and implies that a whole lot of kids are going to die, y’all.

Written by Christopher D. Ford and Jon Watts, directed by Watts and produced by Roth, Clown tells the story of basically everyone’s worst nightmare: a dad who dresses up as a clown for his son’s birthday party and then physically begins to transform into a murderous clown demon. This would have horrified me to no end as a child. I cannot wait to see this movie!

Schwarzenegger’s Maggie and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Get Release Dates

While not technically a horror film in its own right, American Horror Story and The Town That Dreaded Sundown director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s breakout hit from Sundance, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, has officially received a 2015 release date. The indie drama starring Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, Connie Britton, Jon Bernthal, Molly Shannon and Nick Offerman will hit theaters in a limited run on July 1.

A few months earlier the zombie family drama Maggie will make its way to the big screen. IMDb lists Maggie as having a limited release in the US beginning on May 8, 2015. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a father whose daughter, played by Abigail Breslin, is infected with a disease that slowly turns her into a zombie. She lives out her final days on her family farm with her dad by her side.

Cordon Pilot to Star The Vampire Diaries Actor Chris Wood

The CW is standing firm at the forefront of genre on TV having announced not only a new pilot from Julie Plec but casting within The Vampire Diaries family. Actor Chris Wood, also from The Carrie Diaries, will lead Plec’s new show Cordon.

According to Variety, “The series follows an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, leaving the large city quarantined and those stuck on the inside fighting for their lives. The drama tells the story of loved ones torn apart, and how the society that grows inside the cordon reveals both the devolution of humanity and the birth of unlikely heroes.”

While the synopsis of Cordon might sound a bit like AMC’s The Walking Dead to genre fans stateside, the series is based on a Belgian show. Julie Plec, who is the showrunner of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals on The CW.
