HORROR HAPPENINGS Trailer Round Up: Eli Roth’s KNOCK KNOCK, UNFRIENDED, THE LAZARUS EFFECT and More

It used to be that Halloween was the only time for horror movies to clean up at the box office. Now it seems that genre fans can look forward to scary stories hitting the big screen in January, April, July and October at the very least each year. This spring will be no exception with many horror offerings making their way to cinemas so today in “Horror Happenings,” we’ve got our spring trailer round up featuring The Lazarus Effect, Out of the Dark and Unfriended. While it doesn’t have distribution announced just yet, we’ve also included the first look at the upcoming feature from Eli Roth Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves.

Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass and Donald Glover Star in Blumhouse Productions’ The Lazarus Effect

With a solid cast led by the talented Olivia Wilde, The Lazarus Effect takes a semi-familiar “mad scientist” story and turns it on its ear with Wilde playing the doctor gone too far in this early 2015 horror offering from Blumhouse Productions. Even though there is lots of supernatural and fiery action, I’m kind of hoping for a Splice scientist vibe underneath. The Lazarus Effect hits theaters on February 27, 2015.

Eli Roth Shares First Teaser Trailer for Knock Knock

Screening this weekend as part of the Park City at Midnight series during the 2015 Sundance Film Festvial, Eli Roth’s latest directorial effort Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves has been met with some mixed reviews coming out of the renowned festival but early comments out of Sundance say that Knock Knock is a departure for Roth as the director moves away from blood and gore and into more psychological and emotional scares. Described as a “cautionary tale” by Reeves, Knock Knock doesn’t have distribution yet but I would bet dollars to donuts that the movie will be picked up at some point during the festival this week.

New Unfriended Trailer Looks Awesome

Unfriended, formerly known as Cybernatural, recently released a new trailer in anticipation of its US release coming up in April. While the premise might seem a little on the young side, Unfriended screened at Fantasia International Film Festival in 2014 and received a lot of good buzz at the festival from the likes of Fangoria and appears to be tapping into some legit internet fears. The film was written by Fox’s Sleepy Hollow writer Nelson Greaves whom you can listen to talk about his episodes of the hit series as well as his writing process on Nerdist’s own SleepyCast: The Official Sleepy Hollow Podcast. Unfriended lands in theaters on April 17, 2015 courtesy of Universal Studios.

Out of the Dark Trailer Starring Dexter Alum Julia Stiles

Featuring another great cast, including Julia Stiles and The Strangers‘ Scott Speedman, Out of the Dark sees Stiles taking a job in South America and her husband (Speedman) and daughter joining her for the move. The legends surrounding the city Stiles will be staying in are dark, especially when it comes to children, and trouble ensues when her daughter is attacked by what appear to be ghosts in their new home. Out of the Dark marks the feature directing debut of Lluís Quílez and also makes its way into theaters on February 27, 2015.
