HORROR HAPPENINGS: THE INVITATION and THE DARKNESS Get New Trailers

Greetings, horror friends and Happy Valentine’s Day! We hope you are celebrating by taking in El Rey’s Nightmare on Elm Street marathon or enjoying either rendition of My Bloody Valentine, and yes, that includes the remake! Today we’re bringing you two new genre trailers to get you excited for the spring. Let’s get to it!

Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation Gets New Trailer and Release Date

This week, the trailer for the new psychological thriller The Invitation from Girlfight and Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama hit the web. For those who have already given it a watch, the tension is definitely palpable on this one. Telling the story of a man attending a dinner party at the home of his ex-wife and her new husband, The Invitation quietly and carefully blurs layers of mounting paranoia, mystery, and horror until both the characters and the audience are unsure what threats are real or imagined. I had the opportunity to check out The Invitation at Fantastic Fest in 2015 and the movie was one of the most divisive but also one of the most beloved. An overall hit on the festival circuit, The Invitation also received a new release date and will be opening in select theaters and on VOD on April 8, 2016.

Kevin Bacon Stars In Blumhouse Tilt’s The Darkness

Next up, Kevin Bacon takes the lead in the latest supernatural horror flick from Wolf Creek‘s Greg McLean, titled The Darkness. Not to be confused with the English pop-metal band from the early 00’s, The Darkness sees Bacon as a father who has returned from a vacation with his family, but something is definitely not right with his youngest son…

After a vacation in to the Grand Canyon, the unsuspecting family brings home a supernatural force that takes advantage of their most secret fears and insecurities. From the looks of the trailer, the film appears to be diving into traditional Native American legends, and as images of wolves traipse through the trailer, could the film be hinting at the incorporation of some kind of wendigo mythology? Additionally, a quick shot during the trailer seems to point to the Anasazi Indians and their belief in ancient demons and animal spirits. How factual the film’s claims are in relation to the actual Anasazi culture is anyones guess. Still, it could provide a powerful premise for a supernatural horror film as the Anasazi Indians suddenly vanished from the American southwest 900 years ago. Legends revolving around unsettled spirits in their former territory still exist to this day. Watch the trailer below and don’t miss The Darkness when it opens nationwide on May 13, 2016.

What are your thoughts on these new trailers? Are you excited to see The Invitation or The Darkness? What horror movies are you most looking forward to this year? Tell us in the comments!
