HORROR HAPPENINGS: SCARY STORIES Books Get Movie Adaptation, Ridley Scott Talks PROMETHEUS 2 and More!

Welcome back to “Horror Happenings!” This week we got some cool news for all you 90s kids out there who got the pants scared off of you by reading Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories series, an update from Ridley Scott on Prometheus 2 and some other neat horror stories from film and television. Let’s get to it!

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark Being Adapted for a Feature Film

After buying a feature adaptation pitch from Saw franchise screenwriters Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan almost one year ago, CBS Films has hired Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie screenwriter John August to write the movie version of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories children’s book series. Children of a certain age will remember the books that featured ghastly and probably more terrifying than the stories illustrations by Stephen Gammell. There is no word yet on if the film will be an anthology or a straight linear story or if it will be live action or animated, but one thing is for sure: it seems like horror made for young people — from the mega successful PG-13 rated Ouija that came out last month to the upcoming Goosebumps adaptation — is coming on strong.

Ridley Scott Talks Prometheus 2

There are few people who can make headlines as fast as Ridley Scott. The director is known for some of the most important genre classics of the last fifty years including Alien and Blade Runner and more recently brought us the new classics like Thelma & Louise and Gladiator. In an interview with The Australian (via SciFied), Scott revealed details on the creatures that would be featured in his follow up to the divisive 2012 blockbuster Prometheus calling the upcoming sequel “fresh” and saying that they would be “getting away from gods and dragons and sh*t. If I see one more dragon I’m going to shoot myself. Stop the dragons.” “Dragon,” of course, referring to the xenomorph that we all know and love from Scott’s 1979 sci-fi classic. Scott continued by saying, “So with Prometheus 2 what I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act.”

I’m in the minority of people who actually really enjoys Prometheus regardless of the fact that it makes no sense whatsoever. I’ll be curious to see what happens if and when Scott returns to the Alien universe. How about you?

Boasting titles like Matt Reeves’ Let Me In and The Woman In Black starring Daniel Radcliffe, the production company will continue that franchise by releasing The Woman In Black 2 Angel of Death. The official synopsis of the film is below including a new trailer.

“During the London bombings of World War II, school teachers Eve Parkins (Phoebe Fox) and Jean Hogg (Helen McCrory) lead a group of children in evacuation to Crythin Gifford, a remote village outside of the city. When the group takes up residence at the Eel Marsh House, 40 years after Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) investigated the first haunting, Eve soon realizes they are not alone.”
