One more week until Halloween, horror nerds! How very exciting. Let’s remember the reason for the season and run down the latest in “Horror Happenings!”
Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens Horror/Comedy Anthology Series a Go at FX
With the success of American Horror Story currently scaring audiences with Freak Show this season on FX and Glee coming to a close, FX has ordered a horror comedy anthology series titled Scream Queens from Ryan Murphy, Brand Falchuk and Ian Brennan. According to Variety, the series will have a fifteen episode order and will revolve around two female leads each season. No word on who, if any, from the American Horror Story alum will join the cast.
Starry Eyes Gets Poster
One of the best reviewed independent horror films on the festival circuit this year was Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer’s Starry Eyes. Set in Los Angeles, Starry Eyes tells the story of Sarah, an struggling actress who sees just how far she will go to make her dreams come true. Check out the just released poster for the film below due out on VOD in November. The Crow Remake To Begin Shooting in 2015
Back from beyond the grave yet again, the remake of the cult classic The Crow, brought to you by original producer Ed Pressman, is allegedly going to begin production in 2015. While many actors were linked to the project in the iconic lead role (including my personal favorite Tom Hiddleston) Luke Evans, most recently seen in Dracula Untold and appearing in the final Hobbit film due out this Christmas, is assumed by most to have gotten the part although this has not yet been confirmed.
The Phantom of the Opera and Frankestien Coming to Television
And not just any old Phantom of the Opera, friends, a Phantom of the Opera “set in the sexy and cutthroat world of the modern-day music business” from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. Yikes. While Phantom is happening at ABC, Fox is not going to be outdone, is putting its spin on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein with former X-Files and Buffy/ Angel writer Howard Gordon and Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh screenwriter Rand Ravich. Also set in modern day, Fox’s Frankenstein centers around “a morally corrupt FBI agent who is given a second chance at life when he is brought back from the dead.”
Cabin Fever Remake Will Use 2002’s Original Script
Oh yes, you read that right. With Eli Roth himself executive producing the Cabin Fever remake, word came last week that the film will work from the original script and began production a few days ago. Roth was quoted as saying, “Travis [Zariwny, Intruder] had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I’m excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They’re all fans of the original and want to make a film that’s a new classic and I believe they will.â€
