HORROR HAPPENINGS: Refn’s THE NEON DEMON Begins Production, A New POLTERGEIST Trailer Debuts and More!

This week Horror Happenings has genre news coming to you on film and television previewing the upcoming Poltergeist remake, details on The Neon Demon and a new director signing onto From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series in season two. Let’s get to it!

Production Begins on Nicolas Winding Refn’s Horror Feature The Neon Demon

Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn’s dream of making a horror movie is finally coming true. After assembling an all-star cast, production has begun on The Neon Demon, the story of aspiring model Jesse who moves to Los Angeles and has her youth and vitality devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.

“I very much look forward to the odyssey I’ll be taking with all these wonderful actresses (and a few guys) to travel beyond The Neon Demon where all I see is the wicked dying young,” said Refn in a statement. The cast of wonderful actresses includes some pretty big names including Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Christina Hendricks alongside the one and only Keanu Reeves.

New Poltergeist Trailer is Not Messing Around

The intensity levels have been ratcheted up to eleven in the new trailer for the Poltergeist remake giving us a little more time with ghost hunter Jared Harris and a closer look a that creepy freaking clown. For fans of the original, it would also appear that we get a peek at the retelling of some of the most iconic moments from the Tobe Hooper classic like the scary tree, the stacking of the chairs maybe turning into the stacking what look like comic books, Sam Rockwell’s face bleed standing into the face peeling in the bathroom and, of course, the infamous “They’re here” line.

Poltergeist from producer Sam Raimi and Monster House director Gil Keenan hits theaters in 3D May 22, 2015.

Juan of the Dead Director To Helm From Dusk Till Dawn Episode in Season Two

Alejandro Brugués, director of Juan of the Dead and a segment in ABC’S of Death 2, will direct the third episode of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series on Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey network. He will join previously announced season two directors Eduardo Sánchez (The Blair Witch Project, V/H/S 2) and Rodriguez himself who will both be returning to the series after helming episodes in season one.

According to the press release, season two of Dusk will be bigger and better than the first, explaining that the sophomore season will begin “with our characters in their separate worlds – Santánico (González) and Richie (Holtz) are outside Houston, living like Bonnie and Clyde; Seth and Kate (Madison Davenport) are scraping by in the South of the Border; Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) is protecting his wife and young daughter in a Houston suburb: and Carlos Madrigal (Valderrama) and Scott Fuller (Brandon Soo-Hoo) emerge from the Titty Twister, as changed men. They will all come together once again – this time facing off against an even bigger threat.” I can’t wait!

Did you all watch Dusk on El Rey? What were your thoughts on the serialized adaptation of the Rodriguez/ Tarantino cult classic? From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series is expected to return to El Rey for season two this spring.
