Horror Happenings: CONJURING 2 and LIGHTS OUT Trailers Plus WAYWARD PINES First Look

Happy Sunday, horror friends! A lot of first looks and trailers dropped yesterday courtesy of WonderCon here in Los Angeles, and earlier in the week a release date was announced for Rob Zombie‘s highly anticipated crowd funded feature 31. Let’s go ahead and get to it!

The Conjuring 2 Gets A Brand New Trailer!

And when I say a brand new trailer, I mean it. The thing that struck me about the WonderCon trailer was that it really did feature essentially all new footage and went ahead and introduced us to Old Bill, the presumed antagonist for the horror sequel. It also meets the fact that the Enfield haunting is one of the most well documented cases in paranormal history head on, and who the hell is that scary nun?!

For more on The Conjuring 2, check out our set visit with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga and our interview with the producers.

The Conjuring 2 hits theaters on June 10, 2016.

James Wan Produced Lights Out Gets First Trailer

On the same WonderCon panel where James Wan presented the new trailer for his latest directorial effort (read Nerdist’s coverage of that presentation right here), he also dropped the first look at Lights Out, a movie he is producing for New Line that Horror Happenings has been buzzing about for a while now. Based on his short of the same name, David F. Sandberg’s feature directorial debut has been so well received behind the scenes that it won a coveted summer release date and directing duties for Annabelle 2. We listed it as one of our most anticipated movies of 2016 and from the looks of the trailer, we could be in for the next big horror franchise. Take a look and tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Lights Out hits theaters on July 22, 2016.

Wayward Pines Season Two First Look Has Arrived

But wait! There’s more. WonderCon also saw M. Night Shyamalan, Jason Patric, Djimon Hounsou, and the creative team behind Fox’s surprise summer hit Wayward Pines take the stage to preview season two of the event series. While they all acknowledge that the show was supposed to be finished after the initial ten episodes that aired in 2015, when the opportunity to do more came up, Night and Wayward Pines author Blake Crouch thought long and hard about returning to the town. They returned to the network with a plan that would conclude after season three and now, here we are.

Fox showed a first look of season two on the panel. The big reveal this season? We’re going to be spending a lot of time getting to know the abbies, which I’m kind of excited for! Have a look at the preview below.

Wayward Pines returns to Fox this summer.

Rob Zombie’s 31 To Be Released In September

Last, but certainly not least, this week it was announced that Rob Zombie’s 31, his latest feature film that premiered at Sundance earlier this year will have a limited theatrical release on September 16, 2016. There you have it! Looks like Halloween will be starting in September this year and that is fine by me.
