During Hideo Kojimaâs final year at Konami, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series reportedly stayed far away from the press and fans due to the demands of his employer. According to Geoff Keighley, Konami even kept Kojima from attending The Game Awards 2015.
But now that Kojima has officially left Konami alongside the new iteration of Kojima Productions, thereâs nothing holding him back from interacting with fans. Towards that end, Kojima has launched a new YouTube channel which he says will be regularly updated.
To kick off his new YouTube venture, Kojima posted a 45 minute long video in which he and his guest, Kenji Yano, discussed the best movies that were released in Japan during 2015. If you donât want to read 45 minutes of subtitles to get his picks, here they are now:
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Fires on the Plain
- Straight Outta Compton
- The Intern
- Shaun the Sheep the Movie
- Nightcrawler
- Locke
- Kingsman: The Secret Service
- Whiplash
- Mad Max: Fury Road
You may have noticed that Fires on the Plain, Nightcrawler, Locke, and Whiplash came out in 2014, but that’s down to a different release cycle for films in Japan. Given Kojima’s well-documented love of cinema, there’s a very good chance that these movies will influence his upcoming games. Kojima’s next video game project will be released exclusively on Playstation 4.
