German artist Rene Turrek has set out to make the most famous Italian-made car a whole lot more American. The graffiti artist has turned a Lamborghini Gallardo into The First Avenger of automobiles with a hidden Captain America paint job. The catch is ol’ wing-head only comes out to play when the car is splashed down with hot water.

We have seen Turrek’s work before when he Hulked-out a BMW X6 with the same heat-activated paint as the star-spangled Lambo. While Turrek does not emblazon the name of the character he is using across the side of the car this time, I still don’t think I can refer to it as “more subtle” than the Hulk design. It seems he has been more open about the design though, as his Facebook page was filled with posts for the past month showing the progress on the car. He waited to reveal the Chris Evan’s Cap portrait on the hood, however, until the entire thing was done and covered up with the heat-sensitive layer of paint.

So, how does this paint work? Well, don’t bothering Googling for it, because I have an answer. According to The Naked Scientists, the paints is not technically heat-sensitive, but pH-sensitive. The paint consists of an ink mixed with a crystalized salt that is naturally either very acidic or very basic. When the hot water is dumped on the paint, it melts these crystals, which alters the pH balance of the ink and causes it to change its optic property from opaque to invisible, revealing the paint job underneath.
