Help Me Plan My Emerald City ComicCon Trip!

Buffy-Series-3-Graduation-day-Part2-nicholas-brendon-6713092-1124-842

HEY NERDS HEEEYYY! Next weekend, your sporadically posting Nerdist contributor (me) will be heading to Seattle for Emerald City ComicCon* to rub elbows with the likes of William Shatner, Spike from Buffy, Xander from Buffy, Felicia Day, and Wil Wheaton (who I hope has forgotten about the time my dog tried to bite his face off). My plans thus far include, but are not limited to: heckling The Guild panel, heckling the Wil Wheaton panel, hugging John “Walter Bishop” Noble, asking Bruce Boxleitner if he will be the Scarecrow to my Mrs. King, and tongue kissing Xander.

I’m going to attempt to visit all the Portland (represent!) tables (Joelle Jones, Scott Allie, Brian Michael Bendis, Paul Guinan, etc) and then mostly… um, drink and sing karaoke with all my comics friends.

I’ve never attended ECCC before but I’m operating under the assumption it will be similar to San Francisco’s WonderCon and will not induce in me a crowds-related panic attack/emergency narcoleptic response like SDCC did. (Seriously, I fell asleep at every panel I went to in San Diego for no other reason than a finely honed instinct for self preservation. I was all, “So much information; ooh, Oni Press; OMG, Danny Elfman; ackkk, Supernatural; POWER DOWN POWER DOWN GFFHFHHJKSNOOOZZZzzzzzzz.”)

Anyway, blah blah blah, I am a special snowflake who can’t handle crowds or social situations without self-medicating or, apparently, falling asleep. I do, however, have high hopes for ECCC and its smaller, less saturated nature, but I am still a wee bit overwhelmed with all the stuff to see and do.

Here is where I ask you all for a favor. If you guys could take a look at the schedule and let me know what you’d like me to take pictures of/report on, I will try to make that happen. Here is the full list of media guests and stuff. Also, please let me know if any of you will be there! Maybe we can drink at each other!

*And no, I will not be doing any cosplay – unless hungover and cranky is a costume.

  1. Jen says:

I’ll be there. This will be my first so big time newbie here.

  2. Mick says:

    @Kiala

Well, if you want to say “hi”, I will be in line at 10 AM to see Wil Wheaton to get hin to sign my “Stand By Me” DVD and take a picture with of him with my daughter’s shark puppet. Meaning that Wil and the puppet will be in the picture together, not that the shark puppet has the ability to act as a camera. Although that would be awesome. Either way, I will be wearing a green t-shirt and cap with “01” on it.

  3. Change of plans. I am going to ECCC. Having drinks at people is therefore possible, but not necessarily guaranteed as I am a notoriously reluctant advance planner.

  4. Jade Gordon says:

On The Node, in the Seattle group, there was mention of a meetup! Perhaps you can find some Nerdist-friendly folks to touch base with if you need to diffuse the overload!

The crowds, in theory, should be thinned out this year. Last year it was a body-pressing kind of busy. I’ve e-mailed a bit with ECCC because I am mobility impaired, and I didn’t want to have to skip a lot like I did last year because it was too, too crowded. They explained there was a new layout, and hopefully it’ll make it easier to get around. Looking at the maps this year, it seems better!

This year I’ll be seeing lots of panels. So many good ones! I can’t wait! I’m most excited about the Fringe folks, so anything you’re going to cover in that regard, I give you two thumbs up!

  5. Tristan says:

I’m said to say I’ll be missing ECCC this year. Going to Canada for the weekend. Really must go next year though.

  6. smartbunny says:

Is that Nicholas Brendan? Oh, my.

  7. Drew May says:

My trip to ECCC just got a hell of a lot better

  8. Addendum to my first comment: Unless someone wants to send me to ECCC and house me. Then I can drink at people in person.

    Bueller? Bueller?

    Sigh.

  9. Bryan says:

I’m gonna be volunteering at ECCC all weekend, its a pretty cool con. i recommend definitely checking out the Masquerade Sat. night, i mean cmon geeks in costumes you cant go wrong there. also if you have an iphone or android device check out the conventionist app if you havent already you can use that to plan out your entire schedule.

  10. Kiala says:

@mick that is not a terrible idea!

  11. Mick says:

I will be at ECCC on Saturday. You should arrange a meet up with other Node members.

  12. Dani says:

Would love to hear what John Noble has to say about the rest of this season on Fringe and what he hopes for next season if that is a possibility (fingers crossed)!!

  13. Dani says:

  14. I will have to drink at you from here at home.
