HELLBOY’s New Film Officially Has a Title

This year, all hope of seeing Guillermo del Toro’s vision for Hellboy 3 was lost, but the “World’s Greatest Paranormal Investigator” is still heading back to the big screen! Last week, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola revealed that an R-rated Hellboy reboot is already in the works with director Neil Marshall, and Stranger Things star David Harbour as the new Hellboy. Now, we’ve got a title to go with that film.

Via Bloody Disgusting, the first poster for the next Hellboy movie was released at the Cannes film festival. According to the poster, it will be called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. That title suggests that this is an original tale rather than an adaptation of the Hellboy comics. Unfortunately, there is no glimpse of Harbour in full makeup as Hellboy. But there was a sharp image of the title character drawn by Mignola himself.

So far, all we know about Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen is that Mignola co-wrote the script with his frequent collaborator Christopher Golden and screenwriter Andrew Cosby. The film is said to be much darker than del Toro’s take on the character, with a greater emphasis on horror. It’s also being produced by Millennium Films, and it may begin filming either this year or in 2018.

There’s no word about whether the new Hellboy movie will include his fan favorite supporting cast, including Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien, but we wouldn’t bet against them! Hellboy can headline his own stories, but he’s always more entertaining with his friends.
