HEAVY METAL’s Taarna Gets a Premium Format Figure From Sideshow

In 1981, viewers of the Heavy Metal animated movie were introduced to the silent warrior known as Taarna, becoming one of the most iconic characters from that cult classic. And while Taarna hasn’t had many adventures since her debut, Sideshow Collectibles is set to give the last of the Taarakians her due at San Diego Comic-Con International!

Via the Sideshow Collectibles official site, fans attending SDCC will have the first opportunity to see the Taarna Premium Format Figure at the Sideshow booth #1929. And while only a single teaser image has been released, it definitely seems to capture the quiet intensity of Taarna. It appears to be a more realistic take on Taarna’s face and body, but her famously skimpy body armor remains intact.

Heavy Metal Taarna Sideshow Collectibles

Taarna starred in the final animated segment of the Heavy Metal movie, in which the evil object known as the Loc-Nar revealed its role in transforming a tribe of outcasts into murderous barbarians. Taarna was the last surviving member of a warrior race who arrived too late to protect the innocent victims of the barbarians. Although she was briefly defeated and tortured, Taarna ultimately defeated the barbarians’ leader and sacrificed her life to destroy the Loc-Nar. In the film’s coda, the soul of Taarna was reborn in the body of a young girl.

Heavy Metal actually published a new Taarna story earlier this year, and she seems to be overdue for a major comeback. The Taarna Premium Figure is bound to attract fans of the movie and the character, but it likely will not be cheap. Further details about the figure will be announced at SDCC.
